Description: |
Purposefully planned assessments can improve students’ learning and enhance instructors’ teaching practices. As an ongoing process, assessment provides students with information and guidance so that they can manage their learning. Instructors are provided with valuable information directing their choice of teaching strategies and course materials. This workshop covers the basics of assessment, including: the purpose and underlining assumptions of classroom assessment, alignment with student learning outcomes and teaching strategies, assessment types, namely formative and summative strategies, and test question design. A significant portion of the workshop will be dedicated to the presentation of a process for creating high-quality multiple choice items ideal for large classrooms. Participants will be provided with a number of resources discussing assessment. |
