Description: |
Literature indicates faculty often are not trained for their crucial role of mentoring. TAMU's Center for Teaching Excellence uses the seven competencies developed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) to support faculty and their mentoring. At this session you will gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed for "maintaining effective communication” competency.
Learning Objectives
Mentors will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Provide constructive feedback
2. Communicate effectively across diverse dimensions including various backgrounds, disciplines, generations, ethnicities, positions of power, etc.
3. Identify different communication styles
4. Engage in active listening
5. Use multiple strategies for improving communication (in person, remotely, at a distance, across multiple mentors, and within proper boundaries. |
