Description: The 21st Century Classroom Building Taskforce invites you to join us for a workshop by Dr. James Lang. Dr. Lang is a professor of English and the Director of the D'Amour Center for Teaching Excellence at Assumption College in Worcester, MA. Dr. Lang is the author of Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning (Jossey-Bass, San Francisco, CA (2014), a best-seller in the field of pedagogical scholarship. As Lang explains, “The book argues that we can look at a small set of principles from the learning sciences in order to create incremental--but very powerful--changes in how we help students learn.” Committed to supporting faculty translate research into practice, he aims to empower faculty with strategies for making deliberate, structured, and “small” steps in their teaching towards tuning into how students are hardwired to learn. Though the changes he recommends are small and easily implemented, they have the potential to make a big impact on student learning.
