Description: |
Students learn when they have the opportunity to think about, synthesize, and explain new information. Class discussion is an important aspect of the learning process. This two part workshop will introduce class discussion as an efficient and effective way to help students retain and remember information, confirm what they have already learned, and provide clarification of prior learning while increasing engagement.
PART ONE of the workshop will answer the following questions: What is discussion? How does discussion differ from conversation and dialogue? How do you set discussion guidelines in your classroom? How can instructors encourage thoughtful discussion in the classroom? Students will be provided with handouts highlighting classroom instruction techniques encouraging class discussion.
