Description: Adaptive learning pathways provide a flexible way to personalize learning by guiding students to targeted resources and activities based on their performance, allowing each learner to receive the support or challenge they need while working toward the same learning outcomes. In this workshop, participants will explore how Canvas Mastery Paths can be used to design adaptive learning experiences that respond to student learning in real time.

Dr. Darren Henrichs will showcase how a low-stakes assessment, or check-for-understanding, can trigger personalized learning pathways that incorporate multimedia resources, practice opportunities, and extension activities. Participants will examine the instructional decisions behind an adaptive learning module; they will then design an adaptive learning pathway.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to…

1) Explain the principles of adaptive learning pathways.
2) Discuss potential uses of adaptive learning pathways.
3) Design an adaptive learning pathway using a low-stakes assessment to direct students to the right resources.
