It’s hard to receive criticism without feeling defensive, ashamed, or angry, and it’s hard to give criticism without worrying about damaging your relationships. As a result, we don’t give criticism even when we know that we should, and we don’t learn from criticism that could have helped us grow. For groups, organizations, and leaders who value honesty and accountability, this is a serious problem, but there are steps that we can take to both give and receive criticism with greater ease and effectiveness. |
