Description: Laboratory teaching assistants use key linguistic and pedagogical skills to enhance the learning of their students and to keep them safe while working with potential hazards. This second workshop in a two-part series introduces conventional formats for delivering a lab overview and examines intonation patterns and word choice that convey varying levels of assertiveness when giving instructions and commands. Participants also explore common topics for small talk and functional language to use while leading a lab class. For instructors whose primary language is not English.
