This workshop introduces graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to the teaching philosophy statement, a key component of academic job applications. Participants will learn how to articulate their teaching values, methods, and goals in ways that highlight both their unique approach and their commitment to student learning. Guided by Jasmine, Educational Consultant in the Center for Teaching Excellence, attendees will begin drafting a detailed outline to support a first version of their teaching philosophy statement. The session will provide practical strategies to ensure statements are clear, impactful, and aligned with professional expectations in higher education.
Participants will be able to:
1. Describe the structure of a statement of teaching philosophy.
2. Identify personal preferences within key areas of teaching and learning (e.g., instructional approach, classroom management).
3. Recognize elements of a teaching portfolio." |
