This engaging webinar offers academic advisors' practical strategies to explore student-centered advising techniques to prepare and support students' engagement in cross-cultural, high-impact learning experiences such as international service-learning trips. Grounded in the frameworks of Minority Identity Development and Holistic Advising Redesign, this session will examine how these concepts intersect with equity in advising to support the whole student, not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and culturally.
Emphasis will be given to advising strategies that recognize the relative importance of intentional integration of high-impact practices (HIPs), such as study abroad, service learning, and undergraduate research; highlighting the transformative potential of these experiences, especially when introduced early to Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Pell grant students.
