Participation and discussion are crucial components of the college classroom. They foster critical thinking, promote active learning, encourage collaboration, and build students' confidence and sense of belonging.
This workshop will explore how participation and discussion enhance learning. It will also introduce effective instructional strategies to help students become more engaged and confident in sharing and discussing ideas. Participants will leave the workshop with a toolkit for initiating and enriching both participation and discussion in their classrooms.
Learning Outcomes: Participants
will be able to…
1) Discuss the nature of participation and discussion in the college classroom.
2) Distinguish between communication and interaction methods, namely dialogue, discussion, and debate.
3) Discuss a variety of strategies and approaches that encourage active participation and meaningful discussion among students. |
