Description: Literature indicates faculty often are not trained for their crucial role of mentoring. At this session you will gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed for this important role. Using competencies developed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), this particular session will focus on the “Supporting Well-Being” competency in mentoring. Other Faculty Mentoring Academy competency-focused sessions will be offered throughout this semester. Learning Objectives Mentors will have the knowledge and skills to: Learn existing definitions of mental health and reflect on signs of wellbeing. Develop awareness about how mentoring behaviors impacts mentee wellbeing. Identify steps to creating an environment that fosters wellbeing in a diverse group of mentees. Learn to have conversations with mentees about their wellbeing and mental health
