Description: There is a robust body of evidence-based literature regarding high-impact practices in teaching and learning. But how can we translate this research into practice? In this workshop we will investigate innovative strategies for facilitating change in educational practices through transformative learning theory and complex conceptual systems theory. Transformative learning theory describes learning as transformation of structures of conceptualizations, perspectives, beliefs, and assumptions. Complex conceptual systems theory describes conceptualizations as complex dynamic systems from which practices are emergent. We will investigate conceptualizations of learning to explore implications. Combined, transformative learning and complex conceptual systems theory can be applied to design learning experiences which lead to transformation of conceptualizations, which in turn may lead to transformation of practices. In this workshop, participants will revise learning activities in their courses
