| Description: |
This workshop prepares international instructors for conducting effective office hours. Participants will explore undergraduate expectations and examine the core components of productive office hours. The workshop emphasizes professional communication strategies, especially when addressing frustrated students. Additionally, the workshop will cover appropriate resources for student referrals. This is the first of two workshops in this series.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to...
1. Conduct effective office hours that meet undergraduate expectations and address a variety of student concerns with confidence and professionalism.
2. Structure office hour sessions effectively, incorporating appropriate opening, discussion, and closing strategies to meet the goals of the session.
3. Employ empathetic and active listening and manage challenging interactions with students.
4. Choose appropriate external resources for student referrals. |
