Description: Why? How? Are there ways to ask more productive questions in the laboratory classroom? Laboratory instructors spend a significant amount of their instructional time asking questions. But are these questions effective in helping undergraduate students achieve learning outcomes? This workshop will provide TAs with techniques for asking questions that engage students and encourage higher-order learning. Varied purposes of questions, wait-time, and feedback will also be discussed. All graduate students and post-doctorates are welcome. Participants will:describe the varied purposes of “questioning” • Model multiple questioning techniques • Discuss appropriate ways to give feedback • Demonstrate the effective use of “wait-time”
