Description: |
Today’s students are expected to continuously learn new skills and gain knowledge throughout their lives beyond college. Preparing these students to address the complex and ill-defined societal challenges of the 21st century requires that instructors be familiar with diverse instructional techniques, especially techniques that support students in mastering their own learning.
This workshop will highlight the importance of teaching students the learning process and how to begin to “think” about their own thinking as a tool for success during and after college. This workshop is open to graduate student and postdoctoral research associates.
Participants will:
• Be able to provide a working definition of metacognition as it relates to student learning
• Learn the benefits of engaging students with metacognition
• Engage in metacognitive process
• Discuss strategies to promote metacognition in their classroom
