Description: Does serving as an effective international teaching assistant at Texas A&M only relate to English language proficiency? Are there additional factors international students can develop to support their effectiveness in the classroom? This workshop will provide information on diverse factors which contribute to the success of international teaching assistants in the classroom. Specifically, this interactive workshop will help build students’ academic communication and teaching skills. Topics will include approaches to teaching; functional language techniques for classroom practices (e.g., describing visuals, reviewing information, fielding questions and responding to student answers), and culture, attitudes, and assumptions common to the North American classroom. While the aim of the workshop is not to build English language proficiency, the workshop will help students build general communication and comprehension skills in the context of the duties and responsibilities of a teaching ass
