Description: Technological advances and the increasingly mainstream acceptance of digital games have exciting implications for teaching and learning. As a higher percentage of the population gains experience playing digital games, digital game-based learning (DGBL) has the potential to provide new ways for educators to facilitate learning for a population increasingly accustomed to digital media, tech gadgets, and interactive entertainment. This hands-on interactive workshop will focus on some of the general theoretical and research perspectives on DGBL, as well as model possible approaches in the classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to play digital games and to discuss the potential of DGBL and its implications for experiential learning and mastery of 21st century skills. They will also gain insight on how they could possibly implement DGBL into their own teaching.
