Description: |
The Office of Diversity, Multicultural Services, Language Matters, and the Center for Teaching Excellence would like to invite you to a special screening and Q&A on April 27th for the documentary Talking Black in America. Directed and produced by Emmy Award winning producers Neal Hutcheson and Danica Cullinan, the film tackles the topic of African American English as "the most controversial and misunderstood variety of speech in America,” and the language discrimination that takes place against it.
The event takes place from 2-4 PM in Rudder 301, beginning with the documentary screening. This will be followed by a Q&A session with professor and sociolinguist Dr. Tracey Weldon, one of the documentary's associate producers. The event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are requested, but walk-ins are welcome.
