Description: |
This session will focus on how to proactively manage challenging situations in the classroom and how to teach controversial topics. It will focus on measures that can help create and maintain positive learning environments such as creating robust syllabi, establishing proactive classroom ground rules and norms, and implementing inclusive teaching methods. The session will also briefly explore some of the common reasons for classroom incivility that include student/faculty anxiety and stress, feelings of not being heard, and other sociocultural factors. Finally, the session will also touch on how to handle common classroom incivilities as they arise throughout the semester. |
